About the author

Michael Mitchell has spent most of his life in the caring professions, especially in the profession of teaching. He has also owned and run his own businesses. Now at the age of 61, he has settled for a level of retirement, but feels he will always appreciate that many students have a need to regard English as a serious necessity in life. Thus, although he has been an examiner, he feels that he will continue to teach for many years yet.

He was born in England and was a very active sportsman as well as a teacher, mainly in London, until the age of forty. In 1988, together with his wife and daughter, he immigrated to Perth, in Western Australia. As his wife is Chinese he is fully aware of the importance of English and his experience in sport taught him the need for determination.

He has taught English as a Second Language in various universities in Australia and, after learning Chinese, taught for six years in Universities in China where he was known by the students as “Professor Michael”. He knows that learning a language takes time and that persistence will bring its rewards.

Michael felt there was a need to answer the frequently heard question of, “How can I learn English quickly, Michael?” Thus, this book emerged and evolved. The question is worth answering and considering because he has seen so many people reap the rewards of their diligence.

He has also learnt that one of our duties in life is to be a message stick between generations and between cultures and nations. This service has brought many thanks from many grateful students, especially those who have travelled overseas.

Using the 'Rule Of Threes' there are three benefits from studying Poetry. First, a lot is said within a concise group of words. Second, we enjoy both the practical and emotional value of the combination of the words. Third, we have the therapeutic aspect. Millions of people around the world write or recite poems and prayers as a daily meditation. Our focus on poetry lets us CONCENTRATE on the message, meditate and only think of today. We have the daily reminder to remain calm and to give ourselves renewed direction. Our thoughts are often strong enough for us to want to write. Our words force themselves out and we feel relieved to express them in poetic form. We learn by copying the style of other poets and make use of the simple suggestions to use our own style. Go on! Give it a try.
